Site visits

Terra Green Energy LLC has generously invited delegates on a day trip to visit their torrefaction facility in Port Allegany, PA.  Terra Green Energy, LLC  will be commissioning its Small Scale Torrefaction Demonstration Unit (SSTDU) soon. Once successfully commissioned they hope to be producing 100 - 200 tons of torrified woody biomass per month.  A coach will collect delegates from the Nittany Lion Hotel at 09.00 on Tuesday 4 November and drive us to the facility. We will have a sandwich lunch and a tour of the site before returning to the Nittany Lion in time for the Workshop Welcome Reception at 18.00. There is no charge for this site visit, as it is generously sponsored by Terra Green Energy LLC. However, there are a limited number of places available, so please ensure you select the right tickets when registering and paying for the workshop. All attendees must sign a non-disclosure agreement prior to the visit, which will be available on the day.

Energex  operates two wood pellet plants in North America with a combined annual capacity of over 250,000 t. The process control system, automatic packaging facility, and environmental controls allows Energex to bag over 800 t/d and to also hold thousands of tons stock to service peak demand periods. Energex began operations in 1993 after acquiring the Lac-Megantic, QC facility from the Shell Oil Company. In 2000, Energex merged a West Virginia pellet plant with a plant in Mifflintown, PA and created the Energex American facility. The Mifflintown, PA plant is now the foremost supplier of hard wood pellets in the mid-Atlantic region and is the location of the workshop tour. Mifflintown is within an hour's drive of the Nittany Lion Inn. We aim to be back at the Inn by 18.00 h. There are a limited number of places available for the visit to the Energex plant, so select your tickets promptly and carefully when you register and pay for your workshop place.
